Book Design – Letters from the Sewing Box
A good friend of mine referred me to this project. The Editor, Sandra Hickson Carter, had spent the better part of the last 15 years transcribing letters she had found in a sewing box from World War II. The letters detail her father's life just before the war, during his experiences overseas, meeting his future wife (Sandy's mother) in England, and their post-war life. The letters are an incredible collection, compiled with love, and brimming with the reality of everyday lives during those trying times.
The design involved the exterior (shown here) as well as designing the layout for all 504 pages of letters and old photographs for readers to enjoy. Sandra needed a massive amount of design on a tight budget and within a short deadline. We were both very happy with the results despite the constraints.
